I was at a Small Strobes Big Results workshop with David Tejada in London yesterday. I’m just working on the Light Thinking gadget every wake hour so it was really good to get away and do some photography. Actually, you don’t get to do all that much photography at these workshops. What you get is a chance to learn or refresh lighting techniques and you pick up a thousand small details on how to do things, or how to do things differently from what you have done before. Stuff you can apply when you get back.
The biggest takeaway for me was when David showed that, as you move a diffuser closer to the subject, it changes from casting a shadow on the subject to becoming a light source. Even on an overcast day. The result is a beautiful light. I’ve not really thought about that before.
